Estate and Trust Litigation and Appellate Advocacy
Giancarlo Mignardi is an associate at Tupman & Bloom LLP. He joined the firm in 2021 after practicing at a boutique estates firm in Mississauga, where he specialized in estate, trust, and capacity planning and litigation. Giancarlo has already made appearances before the Ontario Superior Court, and has provided assistance and legal advice in mediations, arbitrations, will challenges and interpretations, passings of accounts, guardianship applications, and matters before the Ontario Court of Appeal. Prior to his call to the bar in 2020, he completed his articles at a large, full-service firm in downtown Toronto.
Giancarlo’s passion for estate litigation is grounded in his appreciation for the legal and equitable principles it concerns, as well as his deep interest in identifying creative and meaningful solutions in circumstances that can often involve complex estates, high emotion, and great vulnerability. Whether he is behind his desk, in the boardroom, or in court, Giancarlo is always focussed on reliably forwarding clients’ interests in a manner that is cognizant of the law and sensitive to the delicate human dynamics at play.
In 2016, Giancarlo obtained his Honours Bachelor of Arts with high distinction from the University of Toronto, where he specialized in Political Science, History, and Italian Linguistics. Giancarlo then obtained his JD from Queen’s University in 2019, where he graduated on the 2019 Dean’s List after having earned several awards in prior years for his academic achievements. While at Queen’s, Giancarlo volunteered as a student caseworker at Queen’s Legal Aid, as a Student Editor at with the Queen’s Law Journal, and as a law tutor for both first-year and upper-year law students. During this same time, he concurrently worked as a Research Assistant for several law professors, and as a Teaching Assistant for an undergraduate course introducing students to the Canadian Legal System.
Giancarlo is a member of the Canadian Bar Association (CBA), where he serves as a member-at-large on the CBA Wills, Estates and Trusts Section’s Executive Committee. He is also a member of the Ontario Bar Association, the Osgoode Society for Canadian Legal History, and the Junior Trusts and Estates Practitioners Group (JTEP). While working at Tupman & Bloom, he is completing his Diploma with the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) Canada in pursuit of his TEP designation.
Giancarlo is very passionate about learning languages. He is fluent in Italian and Spanish, and often advises clients in these languages. He also has a professional working proficiency in French, and a limited working proficiency in Portuguese.
In his spare time, Giancarlo can be found reading up on current events, history, law, and science fiction. He is an avid follower of European soccer and enjoys travelling back to Italy to visit family. Most recently, Giancarlo has developed an obsession for podcasts.
