Michael Collins is Counsel at Tupman & Bloom LLP. He leads the firm’s national appeals practice and regularly appears before all levels of court. In addition to appellate law, Michael’s practice includes a range of administrative, constitutional, municipal, estate, and civil litigation matters.
Michael has significant experience assisting courts and quasi-judicial bodies, including work as a law clerk at the Supreme Court of Canada, a research lawyer for the Court of Appeal of Newfoundland and Labrador, Associate Counsel for the Muskrat Falls Inquiry. Since returning to private practice, he has been engaged by the Ground Search and Rescue Inquiry to write a joint legal opinion and by the Honourable J. Derek Green to assist with an independent review for the House of Assembly Management Commission.
In addition to advocating for his clients, Michael presents and publishes on a range of legal topics. His publications include several journal articles co-authored with the Honourable Malcolm Rowe about constitutional, administrative, and appellate issues.
Michael represents clients nationally and in Newfoundland and Labrador. He is a current member of the Court of Appeal of Newfoundland and Labrador’s Rules Committee and a member of the Canadian Bar Association and the Advocates’ Society.
Prior to his legal career, Michael was a classical violinist, and he continues to play occasionally with the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra. But these days, he spends most of his spare time with his children and step-children in St. John’s.
